About the role

This position is for a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC, PD# D0470000, part of the Nevada Army National Guard. This position is located in the Mechanical Equipment Repair Section of the Combined Support Maintenance Shop or a Mobilization and Training Equipment Site with a support maintenance mission.

Its purpose is provide maintenance and repair to all Powered Support Systems; Power Generation Equipment.

What you will do

  • Perform repairs on all types of power generation equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, disassembles, rebuilds or makes comparable major repairs to powered support systems, including major components.
  • Makes visua1 and auditory checks and uses test equipment such as volt meters, ohmeters, engine analyzers, compression gages and torque wrenches for repair and adjustment of supported equipment.
  • Performs work in accordance with job orders and priorities established by supervisor.
  • Performs additional repairs as required to assure the equipment is operational even when these repairs are not stated on the job order.
  • Requests replacement parts for unservicable equipment.
  • Performs some maintenance at unit locations where supervisor/inspectors are not present.
  • Repairs and rebuilds such equipment as motors, arc welder, load banks, electric forklifts, compressors, electric generating units converters, frequency changers, air conditioners, etc. Disassembles items to determine the nature and extent of repairs required.
  • Tests armatures, stator windings, and excitor coils for shorts or open circuits and grounds.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs circuit breakers for such faults as overheating, failure to trip, false tripping or failure to close, adjusts and replaces parts, cleans current carrying surfaces.
  • Inspects and cleans parts, checks for cracks, stripped threads other mechanical damages.
  • Checks for loose connections on electrical contacts.
  • Replaces piping and valves as required.
  • Tests, cleans and repairs high pressure compressors.
  • Maintains and repairs pneumatic systems and components.
  • Performs system repairs, to combination of components such: gasoline, diesel, nulti-fuel or turbine engines: electrical systems; gears; combustion powered generators, compressors, welders, etc. Repairs and adjusts various types of electrical/mechanical equipment in accordance with manufacturers standards, technical manuals, technics1 bulletins and other DA publications.
  • May be a member of the Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT) or the Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • In compliance with Title 32 United States Code, the compatible military skill set is determined by the applicable service manpower requirements.
  • Upon selection, individuals are assigned to the authorized position and its compatible military skill in accordance with Army skill classification directives, statutes, and National Guard Bureau regulations.
  • The Dual Status technician must obtain and maintain all military skill requirements in regard to training, education, certifications, experience.

  • Compatible Military Assignment: E4 through WO1 Compatible MOS: 91D *Other Requirements & Conditions of Employment: - National Guard Membership is required. - Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. - Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. - Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. - May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. - Must maintain local network access IAW AR 25-2. - Wear the uniform appropriate for the members' grade and component of the armed forces, maintaining standards of conduct and appearance. - This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
  • An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. - Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. - May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required. - The duties and responsibilities of your job may significantly impact the environment.

You will be rated based on the information provided in your resume and responses to the Occupational Questionnaire, along with your supporting documentation to determine your ability to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities/competencies related to the job requirements: Thorough knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, power generation, and equipment.

Ability to repair or overhaul major components such as diesel, multi-fuel or gasoline engines, turbine engines, automatic and manual transmissions, drive line assemblies, electrical and electronic systems and accessories, fuel injection systems, and emission control systems.

Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles and power generation equipment. Skill to use a wide variety of test and diagnostics equipment to perform fault isolation and conduct repair.

Ability to operate and understand original equipment manufacturer computerized diagnostic equipment and embedded diagnostics. Knowledge of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and other non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of mechanical systems.

Knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls. Basic knowledge of electronics, sufficient to identify and replace defective components, such as sensors, diodes, and circuit boards.

Ability to utilize, interpret and apply parts list, manufacturer's repair manuals, technical manuals, diagrams, engineering drawings, diagnostic computer information, and schematics.
