About the role

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel in the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Position may be filled at the WG-08 or the WG-10 grade level.

About the Position: Serves as a Maintenance Mechanic accomplishing trades and labor work, within the Directorate of Public Works, Operations and Maintenance Division, Buildings and Grands Branch at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

What you will do

• Serves as maintenance mechanic in accomplishing trades and labor work performing multi-trade maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of installation facilities, utility systems, and specialized equipment.
• Exercises full journey-level independence to operate heavy construction machinery, manage high-voltage building systems, and perform complex structural facility overhauls.
• Performs infrastructure level electrical work up to 500 volts; installs, modifies, and repairs and tests building distribution panels, circuits, and outlet boxes.
• Measures, bends, and runs conduit.
• Connects complex wiring systems to primary power sources.
• Makes repairs to equipment by inspecting diagnostic testing and general knowledge of equipment for kitchen domestic and electrical motorized equipment.
• Tests and maintains lighting protection systems.
• Understands and reads electrical diagrams, service manuals sketches and wiring diagrams.
• Integrates HVAC systems into facility-wide maintenance plans.
• Performs advanced facility wide preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to include system alignment, belt optimization, and routine welding repairs on ventilation ducts, flashing, and louvers.
• Repair domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning system equipment.
• Test for refrigerant leaks and add refrigerant to obtain normal operating pressures.
• Plumbing and Pipefitting: modify, layout install and maintain extensive water, sewer, bottle gas steam distribution systems and domestic water systems.
• Independently cuts major structural openings in walls, ceilings, or floors.
• Calculates pipe dimensions and executes large-scale pipe-hanging, welding, and system taps.
• Performs maintenance of sewer pumps, injector pumps, lift station, backflow preventers.
• Special equipment and structural maintenance: steps up to large-scale structural carpentry, masonry, and painting.
• Performs precision painting, texturing, roof repairs, and Lays common face brick, cinder blocks, and stone to repair structural walls and walks. plate glass cutting.
• Plans and carries out projects from initial layout to completion to include roof rafters, stairways and treads.
• Installs new walls, floors.
• Installs new roof systems, gutter and downspouts.
• Installs and repairs metal siding and flashings.
• Operates heavy construction equipment (backhoes, front-end loaders, large tractors, forklifts, bobcats, and dump trucks with snowplows) to excavate, grade, and clear terrain.
• Executes forestry tasks including tree removal and brush clearing to secure boundary fence lines and ammunition igloos.
