THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) TITLE 32, Position Description Number D1821000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard.

What you will do

  • As a IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) TITLE 32, GS-2210-11, you will serve as the unit Information Assurance Specialist during day-to-day in-garrison planning and execution of information assurance and to serve as planner for deployed operations requiring the same.
  • Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Protect and maintain the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and accountability of information system resources and information processed throughout the system's life cycle.
  • Continuously identify and analyze threats and vulnerabilities to the information systems to maintain an appropriate level of protection.
  • Recognize potential vulnerabilities and oversees the installation of physical and technical security barriers to prevent others from improperly obtaining such information.
  • Responsible for ensuring the protection of COMSEC materials and to determine and enforce limited access of such materials to proper individuals based on training, clearance and a need to know.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor security systems for the protection of controlled cryptographic cards, documents, ciphers, devices, communications centers, and equipment.
  • Execute computer security plans and enforce mandatory access control techniques such as trusted routers, gateways, firewalls, or other methods of information systems protection.
  • Implement procedures to ensure protection of information transmitted using local or wide area networks, the worldwide web or other communications modes.
  • Implement procedures to ensure the safeguarding and accounting of all COMSEC materials received, distributed, shipped, stored, and destroyed; conducts inventories on all COMSEC.
  • Report to Major Command (MAJCOM), Air Force Communications Agency (AFCA), National Security Agency (NSA), and Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team (AFCERT) all incidents involving viruses, tampering, or unauthorized system entry.
  • Provide technical training and instruction on Information Awareness training program procedures to supervisors, employees, and/or unit security representatives.

Requirements

  • IAW The Fair Chance Act, Agency employees may not request criminal history information at the point of initial application, upon receipt of an application, or prior to, during or after a job interview.
  • If an Optional Form (OF) 306, Declaration of Employment is submitted prior to the point of a conditional offer, questions related to background information section may not be asked.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement.
  • This is required prior to the effective date of placement.

  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
  • An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance.
  • This position conducts information assurance functions.
  • Will be required to obtain and maintain certification requirements outlined in DoD Instruction 8570.01-M.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone. No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this occupational series and grade.
