About the role

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis Operations Division, Revetment Branch, Bank Grading Unit. Duty Station: Memphis, TN.

What you will do

• Serves as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic which provides the repair, maintenance, and general servicing of floating plant, heavy mobile equipment, and automotive equipment as well as other miscellaneous items of mechanical equipment.
• Overhauls and makes major repairs to the large floating cranes Derrick Boat 4601, Bucyrus Erie Bank Grader 4919, Derrick Boat B-47, 100 ton barge mounted crane and the generators and compressors with this equipment.
• Diagnoses difficult performance problems on a wide variety of equipment and improvises replacement, assembly, repair, and troubleshooting techniques when standard procedures do not suffice.
• Performs mechanical maintenance, overhaul, and repair of a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered heavy construction equipment.
• Completes both minor and major repairs in accordance with approved work orders, diagnosing trouble to the extent necessary to satisfactorily complete repairs.

Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.

Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory. This position is covered by the DOT rules and USACE ER 690-1-1218.

May be subject to random alcohol and drug testing on an unannounced basis. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under The Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing" or a Memorandum of Understanding.

Employee may be required to serve up to 3 to 4 months continuous deployments per season. This could entail working away from home, on the river or other places for 3 to 4 months straight year after year.
