About the role

This position is located at Bureau of the Fiscal Service, Business Intelligence, Analytics & Reporting Branch. As a Data Scientist, you will lead the Fiscal Service's data program, which aims to improve the use and accessibility of data internally, for federal agencies, and the public.

What you will do

• Independently develop research studies, analyses, and projects that affect the programs and policies of the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) and other government agencies.
• Generate insights from evaluating situational, operational, and behavioral data through the intersection of statistical, computational, and contextual domains.
• Execute and control projects that represent an important segment of the agency's operating programs and/or projects.
• Provide consultation to key personnel inside and outside of government, including to Federal Reserve Banks, and senior executives from major organizations and corporations involved in using federal financial data and doing business with the government.

Requirements

• All newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary (or trial) period.
• During this time, your performance, conduct, and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated.

• Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
• If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
• Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
• Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
• File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
• This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury.
• The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.

Education

Basic Requirements: A- Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.

The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. or B- Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
