About the role
This position is located within the Office of the U. S. Foreign Commercial Service at the U.
S. Embassy in Beijing, China. The incumbent is responsible for promoting and expanding the exports of goods and services from the United States, particularly by small and medium sized businesses, protecting U.
S. business interests abroad, and promoting foreign investment into the United States.

- Typical Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Manage the full range of program activity for industry sectors involving major bilateral trade issues, market access concerns, and complex market dynamics.
- Serve as lead officer for sub-functions or major functions of the Commercial Section (e.g., trade policy, market intelligence, administrative oversight).
- Coordinate development of host-country marketing plans, lead analysis of trade barriers, investment policies, and identify project opportunities.
- Counsel U.S. firms on market entry strategies, partner selection, overcoming regulatory or market barriers, and navigating foreign commercial environments.
- Build strong relationships with host-government officials, U.S. and foreign business leaders, USG agencies, state and local partners, and other stakeholders.
- Organize trade promotion programs, missions, policy dialogues, advocacy initiatives, and commercial diplomacy efforts to advance U.S. interests.
- Provide visitor support, represent the Embassy and US&FCS at official functions, and collaborate with interagency partners (State, EXIM, TDA, etc.).
- Supervise Locally Employed Staff (LES) and oversee administrative duties such as budget authorization, expenditures tracking, workflow coordination.
- Exercise judgment in independently planning work and determining when to elevate issues to senior leadership.
Requirements
