About the role

This position is located within the Plant Germplasm Introduction and Testing Research Unit for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Pullman, WA. In this position, you will assist research leaders and scientists by performing a variety of technical duties in one or more phases of a research project.

What you will do

  • Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records.
  • Prepares solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse.
  • Propagates and harvests plants.
  • Tracks plant samples through plant growth and analysis steps.
  • Adapts, modifies or develops new techniques and/or procedures to satisfy the needs of the research project.
  • Performs genetic analysis including DNA or RNA extraction, PCR or marker analysis, or following inheritance of traits.
  • Maintains, calibrates and modifies complex/specialized equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.

  • Surplus or displaced employees eligible for CTAP, RPL, or ICTAP priority must provide: proof of eligibility (RIF separation notice, notice of proposed removal for declining a transfer of function or directed reassignment to another commuting area, notice of disability annuity termination), SF-50 documenting separation (as applicable), current performance appraisal with rating of at least "Fully Successful" or equivalent, and your most recent SF-50 noting position, grade level, and duty location with your application per 5 CFR 330.

When assessed through a score-based category rating method, CTAP/ICTAP applicants must receive a rating of at least 85 out of a possible 100.
