About the role

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This is a permanent position.

What you will do

  • Perform applicant physical examinations in accordance with agency standards and assist with applicant medical processing at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
  • Ensure the confidentiality of applicants is respected and that professionalism is maintained at all times in the medical department.
  • Perform applicant medical prescreening as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Conduct complete face-to-face medical histories on applicants who have completed the prescreen process and have been authorized to process.
  • Complete all computer and non-computer based medical documentation in accordance with the Command's software packages and policies.
  • Verify problems or conditions alleged by the examinees and recommend to Command physicians if a more detailed physical exam of problem areas is required.
  • Prepare electronic and non-electronic documentation used to assess the applicant’s mental and physical fitness for service in the military.
  • Perform physical inspections of previously qualified applicants to document their status for meeting standards at the time of actual enlistment on active duty and at any other time as required.
  • Perform a variety of professional direct health care duties within the field of general medicine.

Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.

Recruitment/Relocation incentive may be authorized if determined to be in the best interest of the Federal Government and requirements are met. Credit for Prior Non-Federal Work Experience and Certain Military Service for Determining Annual Leave Accrual Rate may be authorized.

On 4 October 2026, the US Military Processing Command (USMEPCOM) will officially align under the Department of War, transitioning from Department of the Army's oversight. Under this realignment, all current and future USMEPCOM personnel will transition into the Department of War (DoW) workforce.

This structural realignment is a strategic update to ensure the USMEPCOM's joint-service processing mission is directly integrated with the highest levels of national defense readiness under the Department of War (DoW).
