About the role

This position is located in the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation's (PBGC), Policy, Research, and Analysis Department (PRAD), Office of Policy and External Affairs (OPEA). More than one selection may be made from this vacancy announcement.

What you will do

  • Provide authoritative analysis, technical insight, advice and recommendations on complex, sensitive actuarial matters with national impact, proposed regulations and laws, and rulings and decisions that impact PBGC.
  • Identify emerging issues that require study and evaluation with a focus on multiemployer pension plans and their operation, prepares position papers on these matters, and presents findings to the Department Director and other senior PBGC/PRAD staff.
  • Conduct special studies concerning the effects of proposed or new regulations and legislation.
  • Provides specific direction and guidance on the development of valuation systems and models for use by PBGC.
  • Conduct briefing sessions and meetings with regard to areas such as PBGC initiatives, proposed policy changes, rulings, and complex technical issues.
  • Represents the PBGC Director or PRAD Director at conferences, meetings, etc., on critical technical issues.

Education

In order to qualify for this position, you must possess the following education: A bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours.

This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.

  • Submit your most recent NON-AWARD SF-50.
  • The SF-50 must indicate proof of status and should identify your position title, series, grade, step, salary, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted); also include your SF-50 reflecting when you entered your highest grade (e.g. Promotion, Appointment, etc.) in order to verify time-in-grade requirements.
  • Please note that it may be necessary to submit more than one SF-50 to show that all requirements have been met.
  • TRANSCRIPT(S) REQUIRED: This position has a positive education requirement.
  • You must submit transcript to verify that you meet the requirement.

  • Your transcript should include course titles, school name/location, date completed, grades, and number of credits earned.

  • Interagency Career Transition Assistance Programs: CTAP and ICTAP candidates must submit documents showing eligibility for selection priority (e.g., RIF separation notice, Certificate of Expected Separation, or other proof of eligibility for priority selection); an SF-50 showing the current (or former) position, grade level, promotion potential, and duty location; and the most current performance appraisal including the performance rating.
