About the role
About the Position: Fort Carson, known as the "Mountain Post," is a premier U.S. Army installation located just south of Colorado Springs, Colorado, primarily within El Paso County. Spanning roughly 140,000 acres (with training access extending to the 235,000-acre Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site), it is highly regarded for its high-altitude, mountainous training environment.
What you will do
- Supervises the operations of the range based on technical knowledge of range operations, live fire training, maintenance of Remote Enhanced Target System (RETS) (including Direct Support/General Support level maintenance), and range equipment.
- Plans, directs and supervises mission essential functions in connection with operations carried out by subordinate personnel.
- Plans weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates.
- Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish various tasks, and redirects workers and resources as required.
- Supervise and assist workers on performing organization, direct and general support level maintenance on targets, target devices and simulators.
- Takes action to establish tasks (jobs), determines special qualification requirements and shift responsibilities, assures workforce is properly oriented, trained, disciplined and counseled.
- Operates various motor vehicles with gross weight of up to greater than 22,000 pounds (i.e., crane, pickup truck, stake truck, dump truck) to facilitate work.
- Operates a tractor with front-end loader or mower attachment, and other range equipment.
- Maintains surrounding range areas adjacent to target devices, e.g., repairing berms, cutting grass, railroad track and bed, and repair of wooden targets.
