- The supervisory responsibilities of the Inventory Management Specialist for expendable (EX) inventory include overseeing management principles, practices, and control procedures related to all consumable inventory items.
- Major duties and responsibilities include: Supply Management: responsible for the inventory management, control and distribution of expendable inventory; ensures maximum effectiveness in the management of inventories; has oversight and accountability of the management plan for the commodity program; conducts effectiveness/efficiency reviews; oversees the computation of requirements for supplies; may serve as the approving official for approving reconciled purchase card transactions; oversees the care and handling of specialized items; prepares/reviews submissions to obtain approval or funding; and acts as the central point of contact for the coordination of commodity support and the resolution of logistics problems; Returns, Recalls and Reutilization: manages federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies; approves emergent procurement decisions; participates in root cause analysis process; and serves as the utilization and disposal official for excess consumables; Supervision: supervises employees from separate but interrelated units; makes recommendations for promotions, reassignments and awards; develops position descriptions and performance standards; conducts semi-annual and annual performance reviews; assists subordinate staff with performance issues; schedules and grants leave; monitors overtime usage; resolves informal complaints and grievances; develops the ability of subordinate staff; develops individual development plans for professional growth and development; coordinates and integrates various technical units to ensure compliance; conducts on the job training and in service training; and assesses training and educational needs and implements training programs; Performs other related duties as assigned.

About the role
This position serves as a Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist responsible for expendable (EX) assets and materials within the Logistics Service at the VA Health Care System in Port Richey.
They will oversee multiple supply series of consumable medical supplies and inventory utilized across the healthcare system, and is recognized as the Commodity Management Division's subject matter expert serving as an advisor and consultant to the Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO) and Assistant CSCO.

It is a requirement that all HCP to receive annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption to the influenza vaccination has been granted. HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service.
HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities.
HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities.
HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
