The Organizational Location of the Position is: Community Living Center (Behavioral Health). Mental Health Service, VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), Dallas, TX.

What you will do

• Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Community Living Center (CLC) psychologist provides care for Veterans with complex medical and psychological needs, including medical rehabilitation, palliative care, and hospice populations.
• Responsibilities include providing behavioral and/or environmental interventions, diagnosing psychological disorders, delivering evidence-based therapy (individual, group, or family), supporting medical compliance, and consulting with other disciplines.
• The psychologist also assists with crisis management and may serve other hospital areas as needed.
• Duties are but not limited to: GS-11 (Entry Level) Provides psychotherapy, psychological assessments, and consultations.
• Applies broad clinical theories, manages crises, participates in team meetings, supports training programs, and contributes to quality improvement.
• Works under closer supervision and may assist with research or coverage needs.
• GS-12 (Developmental) Performs psychotherapy and assessments with increasing independence.
• Presents complex clinical information, implements treatment programs, utilizes evidence-based therapies, manages crises, participates in team activities and training, consults with other providers, and assists with program evaluation and research.
• GS-13 (Full Performance Level) Functions fully independently providing psychotherapy, complex assessments, and crisis intervention.
• Implements and plans treatment programs, uses advanced evidence-based therapies, consults across disciplines, participates in performance improvement, engages in training, and may conduct research.

• Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
• When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
• Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
• Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Requirements

Additional information

Assignment: (GS-13) This is the full performance level for staff psychologists. At this level, psychologists are licensed to practice independently in the provision of psychological services, consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. Psychologists consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.

Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation, teaching, training, and research activities. Preferred Experience: Successful completion of a 2 year neuropsychology postdoctoral residency and meets criteria for board eligibility in Neuropsychology by American Board of Professional Psychology.

Full, unrestricted license for the practice of Psychology from a US State or Territory. Experience working with a medically fragile / rehabilitation population, including palliative care and hospice care. Experience working within an interdisciplinary team.

Training in psychotherapy and behavioral management methods relevant to an aging population with complex medical, psychological and cognitive disorders Experience providing crisis intervention and case management services. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-11 to GS-13. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary.

Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.

This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
