About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.

You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What you will do

  • The VISN Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) Tele-GEM/Testing Psychologist position is a VISN-based position located in VISN 4.
  • This Geriatric Care Staff Psychologist position is under the general supervision of the Specialty Care-Geriatric CRH Program Manager, in collaboration with the Supervisory Psychology Program Manager and the TMH section.
  • A Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) is a repository of clinical and administrative staff who serve Veterans Affairs facilities within a Veterans Integrated System Network (VISN).
  • Staff within the CRH are expected to provide interprofessional services to VISN facilities that are underserved or experiencing clinician gaps due to an inability to match provider supply with demand.
  • Services provided by CRH staff are delivered through multiple modalities, including virtual and in-person care.
  • Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT) is the primary modality for treatment, with VA Video Connect (WC) and telephone modalities also used.
  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: Provides a full range of psychodiagnostics services, emphasizing functional assessments, and uses the most appropriate techniques to deliver quality care to Veterans served by the Tele-GEM and TMH Programs, including services for patients with cognitive decline, often with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions, or complex functional barriers.
  • Demonstrates expertise in applying contemporary interview and psychometric assessment methods for behavioral health conditions and/or mental disorders.
  • Provides education and feedback to patients and family members regarding testing outcomes, recommendations, and best-practice treatment approaches.
  • Provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions as indicated and appropriate for the psychologist's specific job setting and duties, which may include individual, family, and group psychotherapy and psychoeducation.
  • Provides consultation to health care providers regarding assessment findings and treatment plans for patients to ensure that care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the patient's care team.
  • Provides clinical care coordination, as indicated and appropriate, for the specific job setting and duties of the psychologist.
  • Complies with all Service Line documentation requirements, including standards for timely completion of CPRS patient contact notes, use of required documentation templates, clinical reminders, treatment plans, and risk assessment protocols.
  • Adheres to all Facility and Service Line policies and practices for delivering clinical care, including, but not limited to, risk assessment and reduction practices for potentially dangerous behavior (suicide and violence), timeliness of care and access standards, professional conduct requirements, and CPRS documentation conventions.
  • Other clinical responsibilities: Collaboration with the interdisciplinary Tele-GEM team as well as CRH specialty care and mental health programs on recommended interventions and treatment strategies; provision of behavioral health services via tele-health modality; possible provision of mental health services via tele-health modality.
  • Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday Telework: This position is remote.

It is a requirement that all HCP to receive annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption to the influenza vaccination has been granted. HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service.

HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities.

HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities.

HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.

Additional information

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-11 to GS-13. Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

Grandfathering Provision: All persons employed in VHA as a psychologist on the effective date of this qualification standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the title, series and grade held, including positive education (i.e., degree and internship requirements) and licensure/certification that are part of the basic requirements of the occupation.

Employees grandfathered under this provision for this revision may be reassigned, promoted up to and including the full performance (journey) level, or changed to lower grade within the occupation, but may not be promoted beyond the journey level or placed in supervisory or managerial positions or beyond the assignment currently held for those being grandfathered to assignments above FPL.

Psychologists who are appointed on a temporary basis prior to the effective date of the qualification standard may not have their temporary appointment extended or be reappointed on a temporary or permanent basis until they fully meet the basic requirements of the standard.

Psychologists initially grandfathered into this occupation who subsequently obtain additional education and/or licensure that meet all of the basic requirements of this qualification standard must maintain the required credentials as a condition of employment in the occupation.

NOTE: If psychologists who are grandfathered under this provision leave the occupation, the employee loses protected status and must meet the full VA qualification standard requirements in effect at the time of reentry to the occupation.
