About the role
You will serve as a Sign Painter MVO with National Park Service. The purpose of this position is to provide daily sign making skills in in support of critical Park operations. Work involves assisting in designing, fabricating, purchasing and installing signs for over 150 miles of park trails, 98 miles of roads, 550 plus buildings, and other related facilities.

- Utilizes computer graphic programs, ARC O1S, laminators, stencil cutters, and vinyl printing and cutting machines to fabricate new signs and to repair existing signs including interpretive panels.
- Utilizes various paints, finishes, stains and adhesives such as acrylic latex paint, oil base paint, spray paint and lacquer to finish and repair sign boards and arrowheads.
- Installs posts and pipe in soil, rock, concrete, asphalt and compact composite materials.
- Operates a Motor Vehicle including a 4 x 4 manual utility truck to transport equipment, signs and personnel to the job site.
- Use sign making related software programs such as Gerber Omega, Flexi, and Art Path.
- Import electronic file designs such as AI and EPS and converting them to electronic production files such as the Gerber plot data format.

Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required in bending, lifting, and using hand and power tools in fabricating and installing signs. As examples of typical strenuous activity, incumbent carries objects weighing 40-60 lbs, frequently hikes up to 8 miles daily and must be able to do so while carrying a backpack, signs and digging tools.
The incumbent may spend up to nine hours a day digging holes and installing signs and posts. Working Conditions: This work is performed indoors and outdoors on high, narrow, steep, and congested trails at elevations that rise approx. 1000 to 2000 ft above sea level. This work is also performed in urban areas of high pedestrian traffic congestion.
It is performed in all types of weather and involves exposure to extreme heat, dampness, wind, dust, and noise. Sign installation involves the use of ladders and lifts which will expose the incumbent to heights sometime requiring fall protection.
This job will also require the incumbent to work occasionally around and near Poison Oak and in areas where stinging insects and ticks may be a hazard.
