Main duties

  • (90% time) Provides a full range of clinical assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders. a) Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others. b) Provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy c) Provides consultation to professional staff within John J.
  • Pershing VAMC and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients with opiate addictions. d) Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for patients receiving services within the Mental Health Behavioral Service (MHBS) line.
  • (2) Administrative Responsibilities (10% time) a) Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment team. b) Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services. c) Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients. d) Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (e.g., entering diagnostic and procedure codes). e) Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings Enriching Element: Other Significant Responsibilities (Facility-wide, VISN- level, or National Level) ( 0 % time) Committee work outside of incumbent's service, ongoing special project assignments, participation in VISN or National-level workgroups.

About the role

The Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Licensed Mental Health Professional Counselor provides specialty mental health services to the population enrolled in the John J. Pershing (JJP) VA Medical Center and its affiliated Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

This includes clinical treatment, advocacy, and coordination of linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers or agencies as needed by the Veteran.

It is a requirement that all HCP to receive annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption to the influenza vaccination has been granted. HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service.

HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities.

HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities.

HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.

This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed. The John J.
