About the role

The position serves as the Regulatory Specialist in the Servicing & Asset Mangement Office (SAMO) under the Bankruptcy Branch.

Will serve as a legal liaison performing complex research and regulatory analysis to identify and resolve legal and regulatory issues to assure adherence to real estate, tax, bankruptcy, foreclosure, collections, treasury off-set, and privacy issue laws, rules, guidelines, and procedures. This vacancy announcement is open to current Rural Development Employees only.

  • Serve as liaison between SAMO and its legal service providers and principal point of contact for communications related to legal or regulatory matters and for ensuring that mutual obligations and needs are met.
  • Establish and maintains cooperative relationships with attorneys, Office of General Counsel (OGE), Department of Justice (DOJ) and other private sector who are engaged in providing legal services for SAMO.
  • Respond directly to US Attorneys to provide case or issue analysis.
  • Serve as principal advisor to SAMO personnel in interpreting legal documents and applicable government policies.
  • Handle matters to avoid litigation.
  • Abreast on current issues affecting the mortgage loan servicing industry and advises SAMO management and other USDA/Rural Housing Service personnel regarding these issues.

Requirements

  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
