Railroad Maintenance Vehicle Operator

About the role

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Drive and operate the controls of railroad maintenance vehicles to repair and maintain railways.

What you will do

• Drive and operate the utility controls of flanged wheel railroad repair equipment to perform a specialized segment or limited range of railroad maintenance.
• Operate rail or track liner vehicles to align, space, and surface straight track and simple curves.
• Operate mobile spike driving and tie pulling equipment to drive spikes into ties on both sides of both rails, to space ties, and to remove and inset ties.
• Perform basic operators' maintenance on the equipment being used.

One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. This position may require Overtime work.

This position may require Shift work and/or Rotating shifts. This position may require you to wear Personal Protective Equipment and/or clothing. Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 1 year 1 day.

Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.

Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position, to the additional information section.
