About the role

About the Position: This position is with the US Army Transportation Command, 596th U.S. Army Transportation Surface Brigade, 832nd US Transportation Battalion, Rail Operations Division, located in Southport, North Carolina.

What you will do

  • Resolves routine operational questions from crew members independently.
  • Coordinates daily on-the-job training assignments for crew members.
  • Conducts pre-operational safety and servicing inspections on railroad maintenance vehicles.
  • Maneuvers railroad maintenance vehicles safely within active rail work zones.
  • Enforces standard housekeeping rules within the active railroad maintenance work areas.
  • Organizes daily vehicle dispatch records and utilization cards to ensure orderly record-keeping.
  • Explains equipment manufacturer specifications to crew members.
  • Verifies daily vehicle inspection sheets against standard maintenance instructions.
  • Adjusts vehicle speed to safely match changing track conditions and visibility limits.
  • Maintains safe clearance distances from crew members working on foot while moving vehicles.
