This position is part of the Agency Force Protection, Government Publishing Office in Washington, DC.

What you will do

  • Verifying credentials to ensure only authorized personnel enter the facilities, issuing vendor or visitor passes as necessary.
  • Conducting interior and exterior patrols of the facility and parking lots on foot and using a vehicle.
  • Assisting in the pursuit, apprehension, and detainment of individuals who are fleeing a crime scene, attempting to resist arrest, or are suspected of violations, misdemeanors, and felonies based on probable cause.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may be used for this grade level.

How you will be evaluated

If you meet the minimum qualifications for this position, your application and responses to the online questionnaire will be evaluated under Rule of Many Rating selection procedures. You will be evaluated based on how well you meet the qualifications listed in this vacancy announcement.

Your qualifications will be evaluated based on your application materials (e.g., resume, supporting documents), your responses on the application questionnaire, and your responses to all assessments required for this position.

You will be further evaluated on the following Competencies required for the position: PQ-04: Public Safety and Security Critical Incident Response Attention to Detail PQ-05: Technical Competency Public Safety and Security Physical Safety and Security Arrest and Apprehension Critical Incident Response Referral Method: The GPO adheres to the Rule of Many which ranks job applicants numerically and allows for selection from a broader, top-ranked pool.

Applications will be evaluated and rated using the Rule of Many procedures under 5 C.F.R. §332.402 based on a set number, score or percentage of highest ranked eligibles. Preference eligibles will receive 5 or 10 points added to their score based on the adjudicated preference.

All eligibles at or above the pre-determined number, score or percentage, including any preference eligibles with a service-connected disability of 10 percent or more, at any score, will be referred to the selecting official for consideration.

This announcement uses Mechanism A-Job Analysis Cut Score: To be considered for referral to the hiring manager, you must achieve a minimum validated passing score on the assessment. Applicants scoring below this threshold will not be certified. Eligible veterans' preference points will be mathematically added to passing baseline score.

Veterans' preference points (5 or 10 points) will be added to the passing scores of eligible applicants. Qualified candidates with a compensable service-connected disability of 10% or more (CP/CPS) who achieve a passing score will automatically float to the top of the numerical referral list.

If after reviewing your resume and/or supporting documentation, a determination is made that you have inflated your qualifications and/or experience, you may be excluded from further consideration for this position. Work Life Balance: The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.). Background Investigation for a Secret Clearance: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Secret clearance.

To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance.

This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Secret clearance. The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process.

The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance. The selectee will work shift 1: 7 am - 7 pm. After completing required training, the selectee may be moved to shift 2: 7pm to 7am.

This Open Continuous announcement allows acceptance of applications through January 13, 2027, or until 600 applications have been received or all positions have been filled, whichever occurs first. This announcement is to establish a standing register of qualified candidates to refer for consideration.

Applicants whose resumes have been found qualified by the staffing specialist will be referred to the hiring manager. The initial cut off for the referral list is July 27, 2026, or when 100 applications are reached. Applicants are encouraged to apply early in order to maximize their employment opportunities.
