About the role

This position is located within the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). You will perform a variety of duties related to carrying out a coordinated natural resources conservation program to assist customers in meeting their needs and needs of the agency.

What you will do

  • Assisting in developing public relations and information/education programs as they relate to natural resources issues.
  • Participating in meetings with others to coordinate work and prioritize where technical assistance will be provided.
  • Providing input to others regarding natural resources issue such as recreational development, commercial development, and natural resource preservation.
  • Planning, administering, and evaluating various natural resources and environmental protection programs to ensure proper consideration is given to resource conservation and protection measures.
  • Using data or information generated by various natural resources systems to help develop and present both long and short range planning documents, and to prepare reports on study finding.
  • Balancing competing goals for items such as recreational development and natural resource preservation.
  • Conducting long and short-term scientific studies and investigations on the use of natural resources.
  • Coordinating items such as surveys, monitoring, complies biological data, or prepares reports using statistical data.
  • Assisting customers in meeting their needs to include items such as assisting in implementing conservation plans or conducting scientific studies of natural resources program.

Education

College Transcript: If qualifying based on education, you must submit a copy of your college transcript with course number and department (i.e., Bio 101, Math 210, etc.), course title, number of credit hours, and grade earned.

Your education must have been successfully obtained from an accredited school, college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to be credited toward qualifications. Foreign Education: You must submit verification that education completed in a foreign institution, was recognized by an accreditation body accepted by the U.S. Department of Education.

You must include a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript.

  • Current NRCS employees: Most recent non-award Notification of Personnel Action (SF-50) showing you are/were in the competitive service, highest grade held (or promotion potential) on a permanent basis, position title, series and grade AND Most recent performance appraisal (dated within 18 months) showing the official rating of record, signed by a supervisor, or statement why the performance appraisal is unavailable.
  • A performance plan is not an acceptable substitute.
  • Surplus or displaced employees eligible for CTAP, RPL, or ICTAP priority must provide: proof of eligibility (RIF separation notice, notice of proposed removal for declining a transfer of function or directed reassignment to another commuting area, notice of disability annuity termination), SF-50 documenting separation (as applicable), current performance appraisal with rating of at least "Fully Successful" or equivalent, and your most recent SF-50 noting position, grade level, and duty location with your application per 5 CFR 330.

When assessed through a score-based category rating method, CTAP applicants must receive a rating of at least 85 out of a possible 100.

Farm Service Agency (FSA) County Employees: Permanent County employees without prior Federal tenure who are selected for a Civil Service position under Public Law 105-277 will be given a career-conditional appointment and must serve a 1-year probationary period.

The work regularly requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky terrain, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, or reaching; or recurring moving, lifting and carrying of moderately heavy items. Work Environment: Some work is performed in an office setting.

Other work is performed in the field, with exposure to extreme weather conditions, risks of falls, strains, and sprains, striking against brush and overhanging branches, and off-road travel in mountainous terrain.
