About the role
The primary purpose of the Motor Vehicle Operator (Seasonal) is to operate one or more motor vehicles, which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 10,000 pounds and up to 26,000 pounds. These positions may be filled for a seasonal period, up to 1560 hours, but can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

What you will do
- Operates and performs operator maintenance on one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, passenger shuttle vans, and cargo vans.
- Operates dump trucks to haul earth, gravel, sand, and similar construction materials or debris such as logs, stumps, and stone.
- May be assigned to assist journeyman workers in performing duties common to the trades of plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical.
- May assist in the performance of duties related to other trades as required.
- Does manual labor tasks, such as, pulling, and digging grass between bricks and replacing sand between brick, cleaning drainage ditches, lifting, and emptying trash containers, cleaning restrooms, picking up litter, cleaning picnic grills, etc.; works roads and trails in connection with raking and graveling.

- You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.
- You may be required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority.
- You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.

Physical Demands: Moderate physical effort may be required in making couplings between the vehicle and towed equipment. Considerable physical effort may be required in backing of vehicles, to change tires, and make limited emergency repairs. Required to frequently lift items weighing over 50 pounds.
Work also involves climbing of ladders, scaffolding, and working in and around power tools and equipment. Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
