About the role

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serve as a Mechanical Engineer for the Engineering Division in the Directorate of Public Works Natick.

What you will do

  • Develop the designs, plans, cost estimates, and specifications for piping, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, automatic control, utility, and other systems of major size and complexity for use in such facilities.
  • Evaluate design objectives, performs highly complex technical calculations, identifies most economical and efficient procedures for project design.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for use in obtaining project funding and bid evaluation.
  • Review and evaluate shop drawings, samples, and material certifications submitted by contractor for contract and performance requirements, recommending approval, rejection, or receipt.
  • Review the work of architect-engineer firms to ensure design excellence and that requirements are met.

This position requires you to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE450) upon entry, and annually thereafter. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest. Recruitment and relocation incentives may be authorized. Student loan repayment may be authorized.

Salary negotiations for those candidates who are new to Federal service may be authorized. Credit for Prior Non-Federal Work Experience and Certain Military Service for Determining Annual Leave Accrual Rate may be authorized.
