About the role
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Ft.
Rucker, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence, in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training.
What you will do
- Serves as a Senior Mechanical Engineer on an interrelated team of engineers and architects engaged in construction and facilities repair project development.
- Provides expert mechanical engineering advisory services to the Commander, DPW, tenant, and serviced organizations.
- Oversees, mentors, and provides technical assistance to other architects and engineers.
- Prepares plans, details, specifications, design criteria and cost estimates for construction and repair projects.
- Calculates equipment and systems sizing and capabilities to meet requirements and current design criteria.
- Performs advanced professional work including that of marked difficulty within functional areas of investigation; assessment, planning, formulation; design, and evaluation of projects.
- Develops mechanical engineering program objectives and strategies to facilitate DPW operations.
- Reviews contractor materials and shop drawing submissions during contract execution to ensure compliance with design plans and specifications.
- Prepares, reviews, and approves mechanical engineering features of management plans and documents critical to emergency planning and necessary for mission accomplishment.
- Serves as the subject matter expert and consultant services both in-house and outside the installation on such matters as mechanical codes and regulations relating to buildings and other facilities of different types and purposes.
- Furnishes technical assistance to other personnel on Mechanical Engineering related issues.
- Represents the Engineering Division and DPW in meetings and conferences with other organizations and with contractors as an expert on mechanical engineering matters.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
