Maintenance Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Operator/ Tractor Operator)

About the role

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County.

What you will do

• Serve as a helper in the repair and maintenance of gasoline powered and tractor drawn lawn mowers and other types of grounds maintenance equipment.
• Assist in routine maintenance to include dismantling equipment and reassembling and adjusting parts.
• Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, cause of delays, and overall work operations and problems.
• Responsible for the accountability and maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Perform duties in carpentry, painting, tractor and gardening, small engine and equipment maintenance, and motor vehicle and forklift operations.

Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 2 Years. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.

Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.

This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.

This is a Construction, Engineering and Infrastructure position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
