About the role

Incumbent assists the Customer Service Ambassador/Patient Transport Supervisor in the day-to-day Customer Service/Patient Transport Program operations, managing workload of employees, volunteers and work studies assigned to the program, ensuring all patients and visitors have the best and safest possible experience while at VACCHCS.

The incumbent has the knowledge; experience and skills that demonstrates the ability to coordinate a high volume of requests throughout the medical center.

What you will do

  • Day to day operations; on-site events; and community events, contacts are with Veterans, family members, visitors, dignitaries, public officials, community members and leaders, front line staff from clinical and non-clinical services, Service Level Advocates, first-line supervisors and Police service.
  • Responsible for assisting supervisor in planning and organizing the assignment and oversight of subordinate staff to accomplish agreed upon objectives.
  • Dealing with complex and overlapping issues for all VA beneficiaries including VA employee at all levels, Volunteers, Work Studies, Veterans, visitors, dignitaries, community partners all within a complex, academically-affiliated Health Care System.
  • Adhere to more specific guidelines, policies and procedures as directed by Supervisor, Assistant Chief and Chief.
  • Applying evaluative methods and techniques to issues concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations and making recommendations for programmatic improvements, changes, and updates.
  • Assist and help provide support for other CDCE programs outside of the Customer Service/Patient Transport Program, to include but not limited to the recruitment and processing of volunteers and work studies, onsite & community events.
  • Responsible for assisting supervisor in planning and organizing of all activities and staff in the Customer Service/Patient Transport Program for all clinical and non-clinical services, Veterans, patients, and visitors.
  • Assist in oversight of the Customer Service/Patient Transport staff who provide a channel through which Veterans can seek solutions to problems, concerns, unresolved needs. and receive safe and timely transport via shuttle, wheelchair. or gurney throughout the medical center.
  • Help ensure the patient's needs, and those of their family members, are anticipated and met from the time of arrival at the healthcare facility to their departure, to include coordinating parking lot shuttle cart rides, wheelchair transport throughout the facility.

It is a requirement that all HCP to receive annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption to the influenza vaccination has been granted. HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service.

HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities.

HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities.

HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.

Additional information

Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) provide eligible displaced VA competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
