About the role
The Laundry worker position is assigned to the Environmental Management Service (EMS) in the Laundry section of the Department of Veterans Affairs Sierra Nevada Health Care System. The position involves accurately and efficiently loading and unloading linen carts, utilizing linen that has been in storage the longest.
Incumbent must exercise caution in moving carts of up to 1000 pounds around corners, through narrow hallways and congested patient areas.
What you will do

- Fills linen carts with required amounts of linen in accordance with established quotas and adjusts quotas when appropriate.
- Conducts and/or assists in the performance of regularly scheduled linen inventories and takes orders via telephone for linen adjustments.
- Maintains current vendor invoices to correct any linen problems and provide any other pertinent information relative to linen/uniform management and informs appropriate supervisor.
- Delivers clean linen to clinical areas throughout the VA of Sierra Nevada Healthcare System.
- Counts incoming linen and reports discrepancies to appropriate supervisor.
- Unloads linen carts onto other linen carts and shelves designated for this purpose.
- Sorts and stores linen in accordance with the Service's established by infection control policy.
- Due to the number of delivery and pickup sites, the incumbent is required to maintain uniform records.
- Issues uniforms to new employees and assists new employees with employee uniform fittings.
- Stamps uniforms and various garments using various types of heat press machines.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 04:30am- 1:00pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD01624A Physical Requirements: The incumbent is required to be on his/her feet the majority of the time, and must be able to bend, squat, lift, and to climb ladders.
- Most of the jobs require workers to frequently lift bundles weighing 25 pounds; however, in receiving and shipping, occasional lifting of bulk bundles weighing over 50 pounds is required.
- Incumbents must possess a certain amount of quickness in hand and arm movements to meet production standards.
- The incumbent's job requires continuous body and arm movement, walking, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting bulk lots of linen weighing up to 50 lbs.
- The incumbent pushes, pulls and guides wheeled linen carts weighing up to 1000 pounds as a normal part of the duties performed in the job.
