THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a INFORMATION SECURITY SPECIALIST, Position Description Number T5827200 and is part of the MD 175th ANG, National Guard. This is an indefinite position that may become permanent without further competition. Please see "Additional Information" section for more details.

What you will do

• The primary purpose of the position is to administer the Special Security Office (SSO) and all Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)-associated security programs and measures and provides detailed research and analysis on physical, computer, and personnel security.
• This position performs the following duties: Technical authority on all SCI security matters and all other areas of classified security and classification within the unit.
• As principal advisor to the commander, reports on the organization's SSO and SCI, physical, computer, information, personnel, and administrative security.
• Provides oversight of unit and SSO security self-inspections and presents detailed and comprehensive reports with corrective action taken to the unit commander.
• Follows up to ensure complete and quality resolution of discrepancies.
• Assesses and revises policies and procedures to improve their quality, timeliness, and efficiency.
• Administers the SCI security clearance program for all assigned personnel, ensuring all required clearances are up-to-date and completed.
• Tracks and administers SCI clearances for all in-processing personnel to ensure mission readiness.
• Terminates or transfers SCI clearances for out-processing personnel.
• Represents the unit to a variety of installation and functional areas, including national-level organizations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Must have a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligible security clearance to be considered for this position.
• This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
• An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
• This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
• This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
• Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
• Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
• May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate to perform temporary duty assignments.
• This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP).
• The employee is subject to random drug testing.
• Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment.
• This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
• Head of Agency requests to exceed 14 days in a calendar year must be approved in advance by the National Guard, Director of Manpower and Personnel (NGB-J1).

Education

If you are using education to qualify for this position: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree Such a degree must demonstrate the KSA's necessary to perform the duties of the position.

To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.

What to expect next

This position is in the Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service.

This is an indefinite position. Indefinite employment does not confer permanent tenure and is covered under tenure group 3. Indefinite technicians serve at the will of the appointing officer and may be separated any time, after a 30-day written memorandum is issued by the HRO.

This position may become permanent without further competition upon management request and HRO verification.
