What you will do
- The position is located within the NAF Human Resources (HR) Division, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), Twentynine Palms, CA.
- The HR Generalist reports to the Supervisory HR Technician or Specialist and is responsible for providing technical support in one or more functional areas such as recruitment and placement, personnel action processing, new employee onboarding, benefits administration, and/or personnel records management and administrative support.
- Assists with the full life cycle of the recruitment process for assigned divisions including receiving personnel action requests, coordinating with senior staff on recruitment strategies, creating and posting job vacancy announcements, reviewing applicant qualification and preference eligibility, generating referral lists, and facilitating the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions.
- Prepares tentative job offers and initiates pre-employment processes including records checks, onboarding tasks, and in-processing briefings.
- Utilizes automated recruitment tools to generate and manage vacancy announcements, build applicant/position profiles, and track applicant eligibility.
- Ensures accuracy of data input and assists with ensuring recruitment and selection processes are compliant with applicable laws, policies, and merit principles.
- Maintains and enters classified position descriptions into automated library (table of organization (T/O)) for assigned divisions.
- Verifies signatures on position descriptions and ensures the most up-to-date Standardized Position Descriptions are being used.
- Locates position descriptions in the T/O.
- Refers all classification questions and requests to appropriate point of contact.
- Responsible for the entry and maintenance of personnel data into the automated NAF personnel data system.
- Reviews personnel actions for accuracy and completeness and processes transactions with approval from senior HR staff and in accordance with applicable rules and procedures.
- Applies pay-setting rules under the direction of higher-level staff.
- Computes rates of pay increases (promotions, pay adjustments, step increases, etc.) using established charts and guidance.
- Computes and enters company and benefits service dates.
- Generates standard personnel information reports.
- Identifies and corrects basic discrepancies in personnel data and refers complex issues to supervisor.
- May provide support for local wage survey.
- Provides information and assistance to employees on various employee benefits programs, i.e. Group Health, Dental & Life Insurance, 401(K) Savings Plan, Group Retirement Plan, Workers¿ Compensation, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Leave Donations, and Casualty Assistance, and Employee Performance Awards Program.
- Processes and maintains records necessary to implement and track benefit related matters.
- Maintains a high degree of contact with employees and provides assistance to employees regarding basic employee benefit problems and issues.
- Refers more complex issues or inquiries to senior HR staff.
- Responds to general inquiries concerning status of pending actions.
- Maintains official personnel records and files in accordance with Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and internal MCCS policies and procedures.
- Forwards timely and accurate copies of records for administrative and pay purposes to other offices as required.
- Provides information on established procedures and refers regulatory or policy questions pertaining to HR personnel matters to higher level HR staff.
- May assist in resolving complex personnel issues through research, policy interpretation, and collaboration with other HR team members.
- Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy.
- Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.
- Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact.
- Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems.
- Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services.

- Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
