About the role
The Kansas City VA Medical Center is recruiting for Nursing Acute Care Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN). The Float Pool (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting.
The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation.

- The major duties and responsibilities of a Registered Nurse (Float Pool) include but are not limited to: Leads the provision of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
- Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes within the immediate practice setting.
- Improves Veteran/patient driven care by resolving experience issues such as coordination of care, timeliness or process issues, common themes of dissatisfaction, or environment of care concerns for the immediate practice setting.
- Serves as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers, improving outcomes for the immediate practice setting.

- Participation in professional governance or performance improvement initiatives, such as unit-based council membership, quality improvement projects, or evidence-based practice committees, demonstrating a commitment to advancing nursing practice beyond the bedside.
- Peer leadership and charge nurse experience, including the ability to delegate effectively, serve as a resource to less experienced staff, and provide real-time clinical guidance across varied unit environments.
- Demonstrated professional accountability and self-direction, including a history of consistent adherence to policies and procedures, proactive communication with leadership, timely completion of competencies and required training, and the ability to practice autonomously.
