  • As a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST-TITLE 32, GS-1670-9, you will provide instruction and assistance regarding equipment maintenance procedures, techniques, and methods as a part of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team.
  • Provide advice, assistance, and guidance regarding maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reduction programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities.
  • Prepare and conduct training designed to upgrade, improve, and/or update the knowledge and working skills of unit maintenance personnel.
  • Develop, write, update, and teach units of instruction for new equipment training.

About the role

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST-TITLE 32, Position Description Number PDD1257000 and is part of the KY SMO, National Guard. NOTE: Indefinite employment is temporary and is expected to last more than one year but no more than five consecutive years. This appointment will not exceed 5 Sep 2027 and will not be extended without further competition.

What you will do

  • As a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST-TITLE 32, GS-1670-9, you will provide instruction and assistance regarding equipment maintenance procedures, techniques, and methods as a part of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team.
  • Provide advice, assistance, and guidance regarding maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reduction programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities.
  • Prepare and conduct training designed to upgrade, improve, and/or update the knowledge and working skills of unit maintenance personnel.
  • Develop, write, update, and teach units of instruction for new equipment training.
  • Perform hands on maintenance procedures to personnel on proper trade techniques, practices, and explains safety precautions involved in maintenance.
  • Recommend policy, procedure, or operation changes to facilitate and ensure efficiency in maintenance operations and manpower utilization, as needed.
  • Review the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment and maintenance management.
  • Review and evaluate information in technical reports, logistical studies, supply data systems, and observations/inspections of maintenance organizations.
  • Research material pertaining to maintenance and maintenance management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • You must maintain membership in the Kentucky National Guard.
  • You must be assigned to a compatible military position.
  • Wear of the military uniform.
  • Position may require a pre-employment physical.
  • May be subject to furlough actions.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must obtain a favorable adjudication of a T3 or equivalent investigation.
  • Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate a military bonus.
  • Acceptance of a Federal position will terminate Tricare Reserve Select (TRS) eligibility.
  • This position is located on a tobacco free facility.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
  • An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics): Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment, Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc., Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic), and Troubleshooting.
