About the role

This position is part of the San Felipe Pueblo Elementary, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Education Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, directing, conducting, administering, and coordinating academic and curriculum-based programs at a Bureau of Indian Education School.

This position requires SCHOOL YEAR CONTRACT per Public Law 95-561 and will require contract renewal on an annual basis. This position IS NOT suitable for telework or remote consideration under any circumstances.

What you will do

  • As Education Specialist- CY-1710, wis responsible for planning, developing, directing, conducting, administering, and coordinating academic and curriculum-based programs at a Bureau of Indian Education School.
  • May oversee all/specific academic programs (i.e., special education, STEM, gifted & talented, etc.) or student-supporting functions (i.e., dean of students, attendance, student discipline, etc.).
  • Education Specialist is responsible for enhancing educational programs, developing curricula, and supporting teachers and students to improve learning outcomes.
  • Typical work assignments may include the following: Develop and implement procedures for ensuring security and confidentiality of state-mandated testing programs and other assessments.
  • Direct and oversee test implementation and monitor testing activities to ensure that procedures are followed and deadlines met.
  • Provide timely support for testing facilitators.
  • Consult with staff to provide appropriate testing accommodation for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students and students receiving special services.
  • Identify, investigate, and address testing irregularities.
  • Report discrepancies and disciplinary actions taken against students as required.
  • Is responsible for the school assessment and criteria of evaluation for students.
  • Develop and distribute statistical studies, analysis, and evaluation reports as required.
  • Work with instructional teams to analyze test data and develop student achievement goals, benchmarks and objectives.
  • Consult with administration and staff to develop, administer, and interpret evaluation guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist educators with the implementation of individual student data folders.
  • Maintain and ensure integrity of testing data.
  • Ensure all materials and data are submitted within established timelines.
  • Complete evaluation and compliance reports as required by federal and state programs.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an inventory system to track and monitor location of test materials throughout the distribution, return, and storage process.
  • Compile, maintain, file, and secure all reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Develop and deliver training for test administrators to ensure that tests are conducted and procedures are consistently followed.
  • Deliver training for data use in the classroom.
  • Organize logistics for scheduling and conducting all campus testing including distribution, and security May administer student-focused programs and procedures to address attendance, student scheduling, extra-curricular activities, and discipline which may require attendance of student and/or department meetings.
  • This may include identifying and resolving non-academic challenges impacting students' academic success.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Incumbent may be required, as an incidental duty, to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle, in the performance of duties, therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
  • Must possess and maintain valid Teaching or Education Specialist (or equivalent Administrative) licensure/certification in the State where the position is located.
  • This position is EXEMPT from Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.
  • Probationary period is two full academic semesters during which your fitness and continued employment will be evaluated.
  • Initial appointments under Public Law 95-561 do not confer competitive nor career status.
  • Incumbent will be required to file an annual financial disclosure statement (OGE-450).

Bargaining Unit Status: Position is covered by Bargaining Unit/Union - Federation of Indian Service Employees, American Federation of Teachers Local 4521. Travel and relocations expenses WILL NOT be paid. Direct Deposit of pay is required.

Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Pay Setting: Pay setting is determined AFTER selection process and in compliance with personnel provision outlined in 62 BIAM, Chapter 11 and HR Policy Memos. Human Resources Office evaluates education and experience for appropriate credit of increments to be added to the Base Increment of 01.

Per 62 BIAM, Chapter 11 - Creditable Experience - must be gained after receiving the minimum required degree and in a position essentially identical to the approved professional job category, may be credited.

Human Resources Office may consider paid and unpaid experience to determine if comparable for pay increments, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
