What you will do

  • The following are the duties of this position at the GS-5.
  • You will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this developmental position.
  • Utilizes available computer software (including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and graphics) in preparing memoranda, letters, reports, charts, forms and other material from rough drafts, oral instructions and handwritten notes.
  • Serves as a consultant and reference source to other clerks in answering questions encountered in their work.
  • Also serves as consultant to supervisor of the unit.
  • Prepares transmittals of approved tax refund claims to Financial Management Division (FMD) for processing.

Education

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Your assessment results will provide a rating that places you into one of three quality categories: Category A (highest quality), Category B (well-qualified), or Category C (qualified). Your category placement determines if you'll be referred to the hiring manager. Your application may be reviewed by a Subject Matter Expert.

What to expect next

Additional information

We may select from this announcement or any other source to fill one or more vacancies. This is a non-bargaining unit position. Following the completion of program requirements, selectees may be considered for non-competitive conversion to a career-conditional or term appointment.

All conversion requirements will be identified in the Participant Agreement.

Program requirements include but are not limited to: Successful completion of at least 1-year of continuous service; Completion of at least 40 hours of interactive training; Demonstration of successful job performance; and Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Graduate may be converted.

Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) upon appointment OR within days of appointment (as appropriate) and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.

This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury.

The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.
