About the role
The U.S. Census Bureau is seeking a highly-motivated and capable executive to serve as the Chief Information Security Officer. This position is a Senior Executive Service (SES) General position. Positions in the SES are not graded.
SES pay is commensurate with qualifications. SES employees are eligible for bonuses and awards based on performance. Veteran's preference is not applicable to SES.
What you will do
- Developing and communicating the overall information security strategy, goals and objectives with appropriate performance measures to support bureau and department security requirements.
- Managing the monitoring and recording of the performance of information systems security initiatives.
- Recommending courses of action and policies to senior management that allow the Census Bureau to securely meet its organizational goals.
- Managing cybersecurity acquisition projects and budgets for a large Information Technology infrastructure environment; planning, implementing, and overall project management for cybersecurity objectives; and forming strategic partnerships to accomplish cybersecurity goals and objectives.
- Directing bureau-wide automation security programs that comply with federally mandated security requirements and commonly accepted industry automation security best practices.
- Travel Required: Occasional Travel Description: Travel may be required to attend or present at meetings and conferences on topics relevant to the U.S. Census Bureau's mission.

- Initial Senior Executive Service (SES) Career appointee is subject to a one-year probationary period.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

The selected individual's application will be forwarded to the OPM for review and certification by the QRB, unless the selectee provides evidence of their noncompetitive status (i.e., a current SES, OPM QRB certified SESCDP graduate, or SES reinstatement eligible). Upon QRB certification, the selected individual will be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
