Cemetery Caretaker Supervisor

About the role

This position is located at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

What you will do

• Incumbent will be responsible for daily gravesite assignments based on interment scheduling.
• Incumbent will verify interments for accuracy and immediately report and/or rectify any potentially negative situations.
• Incumbent will be responsible for training employees on interment operations.
• Incumbent will be first line supervisor of all employees under the Interments section of the organizational chart.
• Incumbent will supervise all authorized disinterments.
• Incumbent works closely with office staff to order, receive, inspect, and enter data for all headstones and markers.
• Assists organizations in the placement of memorial monuments that are donated.
• Primary point of contact for volunteers.
• Work schedule: This incumbent is required to work Monday through Friday and occasional weekends depending on operational needs.
• Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time.
• Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday.
• All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year.
• Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery.
• Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.

What to expect next
