About the role

About the Position: The Blocker and Bracer Leader leads a crew of workers while actively fabricating custom timber supports, rigging, and securing heavy cargo and munitions for safe transport.

In addition to hands-on trade duties, the position assigns tasks, ensures safety and regulatory compliance, and coordinates materials and workflow across carriers such as trucks, railcars, and ships.

What you will do

  • Pass on to other workers’ instructions received from supervisor and start work by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed to individual members of the group led.
  • Secure freight in trucks, trailers, railroad cars, or ships to prevent damage during shipment.
  • Ensure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available and that needed stocks are obtained from supply locations.
  • Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems.
  • Assure that equipment capacities are not exceeded and that tools are properly used.
  • Fabricate wooden supporting and bracing fixtures and fasten them and items of freight in place.

This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.

This is a(n) Logistics Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.

This position may require Overtime work. Position may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to cover work performed on weekends, holidays and/or in other situations. This position may require you to wear Personal Protective Equipment and/or clothing.

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted.

Position may be made permanent without further competition.
