About the role
About the Position: Inspects, tests, and evaluates munitions, explosives, and storage facilities for safety and readiness. Performs maintenance, demilitarization, and open burn/detonation operations. This position serves as an Ammunition Inspector within a developmental career ladder (WG-07 through WG-10).
Selection will be made at the WG-07. Progression to the target grade of WG-10 is contingent upon satisfactory performance and management discretion.
What you will do
- Inspect individual munitions items and related material.
- Independently perform inspections of storage sites for non-standard and hazardous methods of storing ammunition and components.
- Set up and operate specialized Ammunition Peculiar Equipment, dismantling complete rounds into components for inspecting and testing.
- Observe and inspect the demolition of high-explosive and explosive components, the burning of powder, and the destruction of ammunition.
- Prepare Ammunition Transfer Records or LMP equivalent for movement of samples into inspection building and return to storage.
- Perform a variety of operations in the renovation, modification, demilitarization, care, and preservation of ammunition and explosives.
- Perform hazardous waste management duties and/or hazardous waste worker duties in permitted or regulated facilities.
