THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

NEW MEXICO ARMY NATIONAL GUARD NATIONWIDE.

All members of the New Mexico Army National Guard or current Active Duty/Reserve military members eligible and wiling to become members of the New Mexico Army National Guard This is an indefinite position that will not exceed 5 years. **You may be eligible for a Recruitment OR Relocation incentive per agency's policy. This National Guard position is for a AMMUNITION INSPECTOR.

What you will do

• This position is located in the United States Property & Fiscal Office (USPFO) Supply & Services Division, Ammunition Supply Point (ASP).
• This is an Army National Guard (ARNG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification.
• The primary purpose of this position is to perform the handling, storage, examining, transporting, and identifying of ammunition and explosives to detect defects, serviceability, deterioration, and compliance with all ammunition and explosives regulations, acceptable standards, specifications, or contractual requirements, as well as policy and procedures.
• Conducts pre-issue inspection of ammunition items prior to issue.
• Checks each item for restrictions or suspensions.
• Inspects vehicles, equipment, and storage areas relating to the safety and security of Ammunition and Explosives (A&E).
• Advises using units on the proper procedures for completion of documentation for issue and turn-in of ammunition and residue.
• Performs receipt inspections on all ammunition and components turned in by using units.
• Assists in the inspection and classification of ammunition throughout the state.
• Provides input regarding causes of ammunition un-serviceability and takes appropriate action when ammunition deterioration is found to be other than "fair wear and tear".
• Inspects small arms ammunition to ensure segregation of ball and blank ammunition.
• Supports inspections on all A&E residue returned to the ammunition residue yard.
• Certifies ammunition residue as explosive free.
• Initiates documentation for disposition of residue.
• Enforces safety regulations and is familiar with information regarding safety considerations.
• Possesses knowledge of the safe methods of performing different types of ammunition and explosive operations, (demilitarization, renovations, shipping, receiving, testing, inspection and storage).
• Inspects ammunition, performs maintenance, care, preservation, shipping and storage operations, assuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, drawings, etc. during operations.
• Conducts visual, mechanical, functional, static or dimensional tests as required.
• Uses and maintains test equipment including calibration equipment.
• Sets up and operates specialized Ammunition Peculiar Equipment (APE).
• Validates material to assure compatibility of explosive items.
• Spot checks ammunition accountability, and stock accounting procedures.
• Participates in required quarterly inventories.
• Conducts causative research by identifying material with lost identifications or found on post through verification inspection.
• Researches through data bases to identify lots and dates of arrival.
• Performs Assists inspections of ammunition storage structures to assure safe storage, compatibility, explosive limits, identify structural deterioration and inventory and security practices.
• Assists Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team with demilitarization mission.
• Attests to compliance with environmental policies and guidance.
• Responsible for the requirements of all ammunition management documentation.
• Researches, analyzes, and completes the proper and required documentation of ammunition transfer records, surveillance records, ammunition condition reports, quality deficiency reports, magazine data cards and numerous other documentation and/or reports.
• Initiates and maintains inspection reports, publications, and files.
• Verifies all services' suspension and restriction notices.
• Records inspection results to the Depot Surveillance Record (DSR) in the Munitions History Program (MHP).
• Assists in the National Level Ammunition Capability (NLAC) resupply and excess management process as required.
• Receives shipments of all types of ammunition.
• Inspects conveyances carrying incoming/outgoing ammunition for damage, proper lot numbers, compatibility of contents, and compliance with directives and regulations.
• Performs damage-in-transit inspection.
• General knowledge of ammunition processes, regulations, and inspection requirements.
• Develops technical expertise through schooling, technical publications and personal experience of ammunition processes, regulations and inspection requirements.
• Assists with inspections and audits.
• Knowledge of basic computer programs.
• Ability to utilize computer skills in the research of munitions.
• Acquires a working knowledge of ammunition management systems to include Standard Army Ammunition System-Modernization (SAAS-MOD), Munitions History Program (MHP), Training Ammunition Management Information System (TAMIS) and NLAC.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Recruitment Incentive: Recruitment Incentives are only authorized to those considered by federal government standards as newly appointed.

Relocation Incentive: An authorized management official approves a relocation incentives paid in accordance with this volume to a current federal employee who must relocate, without a break in service, to accept a position in a different geographic area.

Employee must establish a new residence in the new geographical area and maintain residency for the duration of service agreement. Employee must have a current and "Fully Successful" performance appraisal immediately prior to the move.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 2-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.

In determining if your employment advances the public interest, we may consider: - your performance and conduct; - the needs and interests of the agency; - whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and - whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
